Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- cream cheese - 3 oz
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour
- egg - 1 item
- shortening - 1 c
- powdered sugar - 1/2 c
- grated orange peel - 1 Tbsp
- orange juice - 1/4 c
- 6 oz
How to make pinwheel cookies:
Filling:1 c. (6 oz.) chocolate chips3 oz. cream cheese1/2 c. powdered sugar1/4 c. orange juice For Cookies: Cream butter, cream cheese and sugar. Add egg, orange peel and vanilla. Add flour and salt. Cover and chill until firm (about 4 hours).Meanwhile, combine all filling ingredients in a small saucepan. Cook and stir over low heat until smooth. Set aside to cool.
On a floured surface, divide dough in half. Roll each half into a 12 x 10-inch rectangle. Spread with filling.
Carefully roll up into a tight jelly roll and wrap in wax paper. Chill overnight. Cut into 1/4-inch slices. Place on ungreased sheet. Bake at 350° for 10 minutes or until lightly browned.
