Pineapple upside-down cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 2/3 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour
- brown sugar - 1/2 c
- butter - 1/3 c
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- shortening - 1/3 c
- 14 oz - 1 lb
How to make pineapple upside-down cake:
Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over melted butter in a 10-inch heavy skillet. Arrange pineapple over brown sugar. Use cherries too, if desired.Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Add softened shortening, milk and flavoring. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed. Add egg and beat 2 more minutes. Pour over fruit and bake 40 to 50 minutes at 350°. Immediately turn out onto plate and cool. Serve with Cool Whip.
You may substitute a bought cake mix. Use about 2/3 of the batter, making cupcakes out of rest of batter.
