Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 qt
- salt - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 qt
- alum
- pickling spice - 2 Tbsp
How to make pickles:
Slice cucumbers in a gallon glass jar. Add water with salt, enough water to cover pickles. Let stand at room temperature for 7 days; drain and rinse. Add alum with enough water to cover pickles and let stand 24 hours; drain and rinse. Boil vinegar, sugar and pickling spice. Pour over pickles, then add 1 cup sugar each day for the next 3 days. Do not refrigerate. Use right out of the jar.Recipe categories: Low protein, Snacks, Vegetables.
