sugar
vanilla - 1 tsp
water - 1/2 c
egg whites - 2 item
light corn syrup - 1/2 c
chopped candied cherries - 1/2 c

How to make perfect divinity:

In a heavy 2-quart saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup and water. Cook to soft ball stage (236°), stirring only until sugar dissolves. Meanwhile, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. When syrup reaches 236°, gradually add half the syrup to egg whites, beating at high speed on electric mixer. Cook remaining syrup to hard ball stage (250°) slowly add to the egg white mixture, beating constantly. Add vanilla and beat until candy holds its shape (about 5 minutes). If desired, add chopped candied cherries. Drop pillows of candy from a teaspoonful onto waxed paper, swirling tops. Makes about 3 dozen pieces of candy.
