Peppery hush puppies
Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- salt - 1 tsp
- water - 2/3 c
- melted margarine - 1/2 c
- soda - 2 tsp
- buttermilk - 1/2 c
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- grated onion - 1 c
- yellow cornmeal - 2 c
- Creole seasoning - 1 tsp
- medium green pepper, finely chopped - 1 item
- plus 3 Tbsp - 1/2 c
- jalapeno peppers, seeded and finely chopped - 2 item
- small can kernel corn optional - 1 item
How to make peppery hush puppies:
Combine dry ingredients. Add buttermilk, water, margarine and egg. Mix well. Stir in onion and peppers. Carefully drop batter by teaspoonfuls into hot oil (375°). Fry 3 to 5 minutes, turning once, until golden brown. Drain well on paper towels.Recipe categories: Appetizers, Side dish, Vegetarian.
