Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/2 c
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- water - 1/4 c
- soda - 1/2 tsp
- shortening - 1/4 c
- molasses - 1/4 c
- ginger - 1/2 tsp
- pepper - 1/8 tsp
- oil of anise - 1/2 tsp
How to make peppernuts:
Sift flour once before measuring. Cream shortening; add sugar, cinnamon, salt and pepper. Add some dry ingredients to shortening and sugar mixture. Mix water and molasses and add alternately with the flour. Roll into 1-inch balls. Brush tops with water and bake. Frost or roll in powdered sugar.A Bohnhoff Christmas treat.
