  • sugar - 2 c
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • nutmeg - 1 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • sticks margarine - 2 item
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • pecans - 1 c
  • maraschino cherries - 1 c
  • eggs, well beaten - 3 item
  • stick margarine, creamed - 1 item
  • pear preserves, drained - 1 c
  • Add eggs, pears, cherries and nuts

How to make pear cake:

In large bowl, cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs, pears, cherries and nuts. Sift together 3 times the cinnamon, nutmeg and flour. Add to mixture alternately with buttermilk to which soda has been added. Pour in well-greased Bundt or angel food pan. Bake at 325° for 1 hour or until toothpick comes out clean.Frosting:2 c. sugar2 sticks margarine1 c. milk1 c. sugar Put 2 cups sugar, margarine and milk in heavy boiler over medium heat. At the same time, put 1 cup sugar in iron skillet over medium heat to caramelize. By the time the sugar caramelizes, the other mixture will be ready to add the caramel. Continue cooking until it will take the water test (soft ball). Remove from heat, cool and beat until smooth and creamy. Spread over pear cake.
