Ingredients/Components

  • pkg - 1 oz
  • curry powder or to taste - 2 Tbsp
  • salt and freshly ground pepper to taste - 1 item
  • brandy - 1/4 c
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter - 1 c
  • liverwurst - 2 lb
  • minced onion fresh - 1/4 c
  • to 3 slices bacon - 2 item
  • minced parsley fresh - 1/2 c

How to make party pate:

Fry bacon. Reserve 1 tablespoon of bacon grease. Cool bacon and crumble. Using electric mixer or food processor, beat liverwurst until softened. Add butter and cream cheese and blend until light and fluffy. Add parsley, onion, brandy, curry powder, salt and pepper. I usually omit the salt. Spoon into crock or serving container. Swirl top. Cover and chill. Before serving, sprinkle with crumbled bacon and/or freshly chopped parsley. Serve with assorted crackers and Melba toast.

Note: Be sure to use a good quality liverwurst. I normally obtain mine from a German butcher (Schaller & Webber or Usinger brands are very good, but if these are not available, Oscar Mayer makes a very tasty liverwurst). Also, I sometimes omit the brandy or add Tabasco sauce. You can experiment with this pate by using additional cream cheese and less butter.

This and the Salmon Log spread are always well received at our parties. Most liverwurst haters seem to enjoy the Party Pate because it has a very mild liver taste.
