Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 3 c
  • vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • butter or margarine
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • almond extract - 1 tsp
  • baking powder
  • all-purpose flour
  • large eggs - 5 item
  • cream of tartar - 1 tsp
  • plus 2 Tbsp - 3/4 c
  • orange juice - 1/4 c
  • grated orange rind - 2 tsp

How to make orange pound cake:

Cream butter. Gradually add sugar, beating at medium speed of an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition.

Combine flour, cream of tartar, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk and orange juice, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix just until blended after each addition. Stir in flavoring and orange rind. Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan.

Bake at 325° for 1 hour and 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cake in pan 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely on wire rack.
