Ingredients/Components
- eggs - 2 item
- sour cream - 1/2 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 1 Tbsp
- butter
- oil - 1 Tbsp
- warm water - 1/4 c
- honey - 1 Tbsp
- paprika - 1 item
- pepper to taste - 1 item
- medium onions, chopped - 8 item
- dry yeast - 2 Tbsp
- milk, slightly warm - 3/4 c
- flour 1/2 white, 1/2 whole wheat
- caraway seed or cumin seed - 1 item
How to make onion bread:
Topping:2 Tbsp. butter8 medium onions, chopped2 eggs1/2 c. sour cream1 Tbsp. flour1/2 tsp. salt pepper to taste caraway seed or cumin seed paprika Combine water and honey. Add yeast and let sit for 5 minutes. Stir in salt, oil, milk and flour. Knead 5 minutes. Let dough rise until double in bulk.Topping: Melt butter and saute onions until clear. Set aside to cool. Beat eggs in medium size bowl, beat in sour cream, flour, salt and pepper. Stir in onions, cover and chill until ready to use.
When dough is ready, punch down and knead a few times, then let rest for 10 minutes. Butter a 10 1/2 x 15 1/2-inch pan. Roll dough to fit; let rise 10 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°. Spoon topping onto bread, leaving a 1/2 edge all around. Sprinkle on seed, then paprika. Bake 30 minutes. Let cool 20 to 30 minutes before serving.
