Ingredients/Components

  • water
  • pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • garlic salt - 1/4 tsp
  • parsley flakes - 1 tsp
  • salt to taste - 1 item
  • diced celery - 1 c
  • sliced carrots - 1 c
  • marjoram - 1/4 tsp
  • sliced onions
  • meaty ham bone - 1 item
  • 2 1/4 c - 1 lb
  • potatoes as desired - 1 item

How to make old-fashioned split pea soup:

In a large kettle, combine peas, water, ham bone, onions and seasonings. Simmer, covered, for 2 hours. Remove bone, cut off bits of meat and return to soup along with celery, carrots, potatoes and remaining seasonings. Cook 45 minutes. Serve with French bread. Yields 12 servings. Better the second day.
