  • sugar - 3 c
  • eggs - 5 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • butter - 1 c
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • all-purpose flour - 3 c
  • dash of salt - 1 item

How to make old-fashioned pound cake:

Cream butter and shortening. Gradually add sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time. Combine flour and baking powder. Add to mixture alternating with milk. Stir in vanilla. Bake in a tube pan or long loaf pan at 350° for 1 hour and 15 minutes. (It is very important to start cake in a cold oven.) Cool 10 minutes, then turn out on cake plate.
