How to make old-fashioned oatmeal cookies:
Simmer raisins and water over medium heat until raisins are plump, about 15 minutes. Drain, reserving the liquid (add enough water to make 1 cup). Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and vanilla well. Stir in reserved liquid. Blend in remaining ingredients. Drop by rounded teaspoonful about 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 400° for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly brown. Makes about 6 dozen.Recipe categories: Desserts, Drop cookies, Cookie and brownie.
