How to make old-fashioned lemonade:

Boil sugar and water in a small saucepan for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice. Cool, then pour into jar and refrigerate. To serve, stir 2 tablespoons syrup into three-fourths cup water. Add ice. Makes enough for 20 servings.

For a minted version, add 1/2 cup fresh mint (twist it to crush the leaves slightly) to the sugar-water before boiling.
