How to make old-fashioned biscuits:

Mix dry ingredients in bowl. Cut in butter or shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. With fork, stir in buttermilk to make soft dough. Turn into lightly floured board and knead about 10 times to form a soft ball. Roll out to a 6 x 6-inch square. Place on ungreased baking sheet. With knife, cut into 12 portions. Do not separate; leave in a square. Bake at 400° for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
