- sugar - 2 Tbsp
- butter or margarine - 1/4 c
- salt - 3 tsp
- water
- egg - 1 item
- all-purpose flour
- honey - 1/2 c
- 8 oz - 1 c
- dry yeast - 2 pkg
How to make old fashion honey wheat bread:
Mix cottage cheese and butter or margarine with water and honey. Heat in medium saucepan until very warm (130°). Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup and level off. Combine warm liquids, 2 cups flour and remaining ingredients in large bowl; beat 2 minutes at medium speed. By hand, stir in remaining flour to make a stiff dough. Knead dough on well floured surface for 2 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl. Cover; let rise in warm place until light and double in size (approximately 1 hour). Grease (not oil) two 9 x 5-inch loaf pans.Punch down dough; divide and shape into 2 loaves. Place in greased pans; cover and let rise until double in size (in warm place), approximately 45 minutes. Heat oven to 350°. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until golden brown and loaves sound hollow when lightly tapped. Immediately remove from pan. If desired, brush warm bread with butter or margarine. Makes 2 loaves.
