Ingredients/Components
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- granulated sugar - 1/2 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- all-purpose flour
- firmly packed brown sugar - 3/4 c
- salt optional - 1 tsp
- nutmeg optional - 1/4 tsp
- cinnamon optional - 1 tsp
- Quaker oats quick or old-fashioned, uncooked - 3 c
- 2 1/2 sticks margarine
How to make oatmeal cookies:
Heat oven to 375°. Beat margarine and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add combined flour, baking soda, salt and spices; mix well. Stir in oats. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 9 minutes for a chewy cookie; 10 to 11 minutes for a crisp cookie. Cool 1 minute on a cookie sheet; remove to a wire rack.
