Ingredients/Components

  • vanilla - 1/2 tsp
  • granulated sugar - 1/2 c
  • packed brown sugar - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • baking powder - 1/4 tsp
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 1/4 c
  • all-purpose flour - 1 c
  • margarine or butter, softened - 1/4 c
  • quick cooking oats
  • ground cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
  • raisins or chopped nuts if desired - 1 c

How to make oatmeal cookies:

Heat oven to 375°. Mix all ingredients, except oats, flour and raisins. Stir in oats, flour and raisins. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls, about 2-inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until light brown, about 10 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Yields about 2 dozen cookies.
