  • boiling water
  • oats - 1 c
  • stick butter or oleo - 1 item
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • sugar - 1 c
  • eggs, beaten - 2 item
  • flour
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
  • instant cocoa mix - 2 Tbsp
  • Let stand for 20 minutes
  • cream - 1/2 c
  • coconut - 1 c
  • chopped nuts - 1/2 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp

How to make oatmeal cake:

Pour boiling water over oats. Let stand for 20 minutes. Mix softened butter to both sugars; add to oats. Add beaten eggs to oat mixture. Mix in remaining dry ingredients. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.Icing:1 stick oleo or butter1/2 c. cream1 c. brown sugar1 c. coconut1/2 c. chopped nuts1 tsp. vanilla Bring oleo or butter, cream and brown sugar to boil. Add coconut, chopped nuts and vanilla.

Spread on hot cake. Place under broiler until bubbly. (Looks like German chocolate cake when done.)
