Ingredients/Components

  • eggs - 2 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1/2 c
  • flour - 1 c
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • coconut - 1 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • chopped dates - 1/2 c
  • boiling water - 1 c
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • quick oats - 1 c
  • canned milk - 1/2 c
  • each cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt - 1/2 tsp
  • Cream shortening and add sugar

How to make oatmeal cake:

Pour water over oats. Cream shortening and add sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, then add flour. Fold in oats with dates and nuts. Bake at 300° for 60 minutes.Topping:6 Tbsp. margarine1/2 c. brown sugar1 c. coconut1 tsp. vanilla1/2 c. canned milk1/2 c. chopped nuts Melt margarine. Add rest of ingredients. Spread on cake and put under broiler. Watch closely as it will burn easily.
