  • sugar - 1 c
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1 c
  • flour
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • butter
  • baking soda
  • boiling water
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • eggs, well beaten - 2 item
  • quick rolled oats - 1 c
  • sweetened condensed milk not evaporated - 1/4 c

How to make oatmeal cake:

Topping:6 Tbsp. butter1/4 c. sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated)1 c. brown sugar1 c. chopped nuts1 tsp. vanilla Stir boiling water into oats. Let stand. Cream shortening and sugars. Beat in the eggs and oat mixture. Sift together flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Combine with oat mixture. Pour into a 9 x 13-inch greased baking pan. Bake in a 350° oven for 35 minutes. Spread with topping mixture and broil until lightly browned.

Topping: Combine the butter, sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, nuts and vanilla. Mix well.
