Oatmeal bread
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1 Tbsp
- brown sugar - 1/2 c
- boiling water - 2 c
- margarine - 2 Tbsp
- warm water - 1 c
- quick oats - 1 c
- whole wheat flour - 1/2 c
- white flour - 5 c
- dry yeast - 1 pkg
How to make oatmeal bread:
Mix the first 5 ingredients in a very large bowl (4 to 5-quart). Pour over the boiling water; stir to combine. Dissolve yeast in 1 cup warm water; mix both together. Stir in 5 cups white flour. Knead dough, in bowl, for approximately 10 minutes, adding flour as needed. Place dough in covered, greased bowl; let rise until doubled in size. Punch down; shape into 2 loaves. Place in two 9 x 5 x 3-inch pans. Bake at 350° for 30 to 40 minutes. Cool on rack on side; brush with margarine for a soft crust. Makes 2 loaves.Recipe categories: Breads, Low fat, Yeast breads.
