Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1 c
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • heavy cream - 3 c
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • diced onion - 1 c
  • parsley - 1 tsp
  • diced celery - 1 c
  • diced carrots - 1 c
  • thyme - 1/2 tsp
  • diced potatoes - 3 c
  • bacon, diced - 1/4 lb
  • chopped clams - 3 c
  • clam broth or fish stock - 4 c

How to make new england clam chowder:

In a large pot, fry bacon until crisp. Drain the grease. Add butter and vegetables. Saute until tender. Stir in flour. Cook 2 minutes. Add all remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce to simmer. Simmer until thick, 15 to 20 minutes. Stir frequently.
