  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • baking powder - 4 tsp
  • shortening - 2 Tbsp
  • warm water - 2/3 c
  • oil for frying - 1 item

How to make navajo fry bread:

Combine dry ingredients. Cut in shortening. Add water to make a workable dough. Tear off dough into fist size balls. Roll dough 1/2-inch thick to form a circle. With fingers, make a hole in center of dough (about size of a dime). Deep fry in hot oil until golden brown. Drain on absorbent towel. Serve hot with honey. Makes 1 to 2 dozen.
