How to make navajo fried bread:

This bread can be used for a side dish, tacos or sandwiches. Some people eat it as is, others put butter and syrup on it.

Hint: If the dough gets too sticky during kneading, add a little flour.

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. With clean hands, hold the bowl with one hand and with the other, mix the dough, adding a little water at a time, until the dough is a very sticky consistency. Knead it until smooth. Cover it with a lid for one hour in a warm area.

In a big skillet, put shortening and allow to melt. Pinch a part of the dough off, about the size of a baseball; either flap out to the size of a plate or roll out with a pin and place gently into grease. Turn over until both sides are brown.
