Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2/3 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 5 6
- shortening - 2/3 c
- lukewarm water - 1/2 c
- scalded milk - 1 c
- well beaten eggs - 2 item
- mashed potatoes, unseasoned - 1 c
- yeast cake or envelope dry yeast - 1 item
How to make monkey bread:
Put yeast in 1/2 cup water. Let set. Combine milk, potatoes, sugar, salt and shortening. Let stand until lukewarm. Add yeast, eggs and 1/2 cup flour and beat well. Add flour to make stiff dough. Knead well. Let rise to double.Roll out dough. Put pieces, size of a walnut, dipped in butter, in tube pan in only 3 layers. Let rise. Bake at 375° for 45 minutes. Will make 2 (9-inch) tube pans for this recipe.
