  • quick oats - 2 c
  • water - 2 c
  • margarine - 1/4 c
  • molasses - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1 Tbsp
  • yeast - 2 pkg
  • warm water - 1 c
  • all-purpose flour - 3 c
  • whole wheat flour - 3 c

How to make molasses oatmeal bread:

In saucepan, bring 2 cups water to boil. Gradually stir in oats. Cook, stirring, until thick (about 1 minute). Remove from heat; add salt, molasses and margarine. Cool to lukewarm. Sprinkle yeast over 1 cup lukewarm water in large bowl. Stir until dissolved. Add lukewarm molasses mixture and 3 cups of flour. Beat until smooth. Gradually add remaining flour, mixing with hands. Knead for 10 to 12 minutes, adding more flour if needed.

Place in large greased bowl, turning to bring up greased side. Cover with damp towel. Let rise until double in bulk (about 1 hour). Form into loaves and let rise again. Bake in preheated 375° oven for 25 to 30 minutes for 3 small loaves or 50 to 55 minutes for 2 large loaves.
