Meatball stew
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 tsp
- salt
- flour - 3 Tbsp
- water - 1 c
- egg - 1 item
- cooking oil - 1 Tbsp
- pepper - 1/8 tsp
- soft bread crumbs - 1/2 c
- can tomatoes, cut up - 1 lb
- ground beef
- minced onion - 1 Tbsp
- basil leaves - 1 tsp
- medium onion, chopped - 1 item
- stalk celery, sliced - 1 item
- medium potatoes, pared and diced - 3 item
- small carrots, pared and diced - 4 item
How to make meatball stew:
Combine beef, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, pepper, egg, onion and bread crumbs in a bowl; mix well. Form into 1-inch balls. Brown on all sides in hot oil in a large skillet. Place balls in a 2-quart casserole dish. Pour off fat except for 3 tablespoons. Blend flour into reserved fat in skillet. Stir in tomatoes, water, 1/2 teaspoon salt, sugar and basil. Stir well. Add potatoes, carrots, onions and celery. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Simmer 10 minutes. Add more water if necessary. Pour over meatballs in a casserole. Cover; bake at 350° for 1 hour or until vegetables are tender. Serves 6.Recipe categories: Main dish, Beef, Stew.
