Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 2 tsp
  • flour - 4 c
  • water
  • baking powder - 4 tsp
  • shortening - 1/4 c
  • raisins - 1/2 c
  • pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • hard-boiled eggs, chopped - 2 item
  • ground beef
  • chopped olives - 1/2 c
  • egg, lightly beaten - 1 item
  • medium onion, chopped - 1 item
  • green pepper, chopped - 1 item
  • oil for frying - 1 item

How to make meat turnovers:

Cut shortening into sifted flour, baking powder and 2 teaspoons salt in bowl. Add egg and water, tossing lightly to form a soft dough. Chill in refrigerator.

Brown ground beef with onion and green pepper in skillet. Add remaining ingredients, except oil. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.

Roll dough to 1/16-inch thickness on floured surface. Cut into 4-inch circles. Place 1 spoonful meat sauce on each circle. Fold dough over to enclose filling; seal edges with fork.

Fry in oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot. Yields 20 to 24 turnovers.
