Meat turnovers
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 2 tsp
- flour - 4 c
- water
- baking powder - 4 tsp
- shortening - 1/4 c
- raisins - 1/2 c
- pepper - 1/2 tsp
- hard-boiled eggs, chopped - 2 item
- ground beef
- chopped olives - 1/2 c
- egg, lightly beaten - 1 item
- medium onion, chopped - 1 item
- green pepper, chopped - 1 item
- oil for frying - 1 item
How to make meat turnovers:
Cut shortening into sifted flour, baking powder and 2 teaspoons salt in bowl. Add egg and water, tossing lightly to form a soft dough. Chill in refrigerator.Brown ground beef with onion and green pepper in skillet. Add remaining ingredients, except oil. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes.
Roll dough to 1/16-inch thickness on floured surface. Cut into 4-inch circles. Place 1 spoonful meat sauce on each circle. Fold dough over to enclose filling; seal edges with fork.
Fry in oil until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Serve hot. Yields 20 to 24 turnovers.
