Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/4 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 4 5
- confectioners sugar - 1 c
- shortening - 1/2 c
- hot milk - 1 c
- eggs, slightly beaten - 2 item
- dry yeast - 2 pkg
- lukewarm water - 1/4 c
- maple flavoring - 1/2 tsp
- Add sugar, salt, shortening and milk
How to make maple bars:
Dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar, salt, shortening and milk. Stir until shortening melts. When mixture has cooled to lukewarm, add eggs. Stir in 2 cups of flour. Gradually stir in 1 1/2 cups to 2 cups more flour, more if needed. Place in a greased bowl and let rise until doubled in bulk, about 2 hours. Press down and roll out on slightly floured board 1/2-inch thick in a rectangle shape. Cut with a sharp knife. Let rise uncovered to form a crust and double in bulk. Fry a few at a time in deep fat, 365°, for about 3 minutes. When it rises to the surface and turns brown, turn it over and brown. Remove and drain on paper towel.
