  • sugar - 1/4 c
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • egg - 1 item
  • shortening - 1/4 c
  • warm water - 1 in
  • scalded milk - 1 c

How to make maple bars:

Combine milk, shortening, sugar and salt. Cool. Add yeast, softened in warm water. Add egg and flour. Let rise for 2 hours. Roll out and cut in bars with knife. Let rise until very large and fry in fat (melted Crisco). Frost with powdered sugar and maple flavoring.
