Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/4 c
- salt
- molasses - 2/3 c
- dry mustard - 2 tsp
- pepper - 1/2 tsp
- salt pork - 1/2 lb
- onion optional - 1 item
- dry beans - 2 lb
How to make maine baked beans:
Soak beans overnight in cold water. On the next morning, parboil until skins crack when blown upon. Add salt pork. Mix sugar, molasses, mustard, pepper and salt into 1 pint of boiling water. Pour this over beans and pork. If necessary, add more boiling water to cover. Add more water when needed while baking. Bake at 300° for 6 hours.Recipe categories: Main dish, Beans, Northeastern U.S..
