Ingredients/Components

  • flour - 2 c
  • sugar - 2 c
  • sour cream - 2/3 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 3 Tbsp
  • eggs - 2 item
  • soda
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • stick oleo - 1 item
  • hot water - 1 c
  • can Milnot or 3/4 c
  • pecans - 1/2 c
  • egg yolks - 4 item
  • coconut
  • powdered sugar - 3 c
  • milk - 6 Tbsp
  • chopped nuts or coconut - 1/2 c
  • shortening - 1/2 c

How to make mahogany cake:

Filling:1 (6 oz.) can Milnot or 3/4 c. cream1/2 c. pecans2/3 stick oleo1 c. sugar4 egg yolks1 1/3 c. coconut Frosting:1/2 c. cocoa1 tsp. vanilla3 c. powdered sugar6 Tbsp. milk1/2 c. chopped nuts or coconut1/2 c. shortening Cake: Mix dry ingredients. Add eggs, sour cream and vanilla, then oleo and hot water. Bake in 2 round layer pans.

Filling: Combine Milnot, oleo, sugar and egg yolks. Cook in double boiler until thick, then add coconut and pecans.

Frosting: Combine ingredients.

Put filling in between layers and on top; put frosting on top.
