Ingredients/Components
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 1 Tbsp
- margarine - 1 Tbsp
- dry mustard - 1/2 tsp
- pepper - 1/4 tsp
- grated onion - 2 Tbsp
- elbow macaroni - 6 7
- thin White Sauce - 2 c
- shredded sharp American cheese 1/2 lb - 3 c
How to make macaroni and cheese:
White Sauce:1 Tbsp. margarine1 Tbsp. flour1/4 tsp. salt1/8 tsp. pepper1 c. milk1/2 tsp. dry mustard Casserole: Heat oven to 375°. Cook macaroni as directed on package. Place half the macaroni in ungreased 2-quart casserole. Sprinkle with half the onion, salt, pepper and cheese; repeat.White Sauce: Melt margarine over low heat. Blend in flour, salt and pepper with wire whisk. Stir until smooth and bubbly. Add milk gradually, stirring constantly. Heat to boil and boil 1 minute. Pour sauce over casserole. Dot with butter. Cover; bake 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 minutes longer. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
