Ingredients/Components

  • milk - 2 c
  • butter or margarine - 3 Tbsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • all-purpose flour - 3 Tbsp
  • elbow macaroni
  • shredded sharp cheese - 2 c
  • minced onion optional - 1/4 c

How to make macaroni and cheese:

Cook macaroni in boiling salted water until tender; drain and set aside. Melt butter; blend in flour. Add milk. Cook until thick, stirring constantly. Add salt, pepper, onion and cheese. Stir until cheese is melted. Mix sauce with macaroni. Put in 1 1/2-quart casserole. Bake in 350° oven for 45 minutes or until bubbly and browned. Serves 6 to 8.
