  • sugar - 1 c
  • salt - 1/8 tsp
  • flour
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • chopped nuts optional - 3/4 c
  • beaten eggs - 2 item
  • skim milk - 1/2 c
  • grated rind of one lemon - 1 item
  • lemon verbena, chopped - 2 Tbsp
  • poppy seed and anise optional - 1 item

How to make lemon tea bread:

Cream sugar, shortening and salt, and fold in remaining ingredients, except poppy seed and anise. Bake in prepared metal loaf pan 45 minutes at 350° (glass 325°). Sprinkle poppy seed and anise on batter before baking if desired.
