Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 c
  • eggs - 2 item
  • milk - 1/2 c
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • chopped walnuts - 1/2 c
  • margarine - 1/4 c
  • rind of 1 lemon, grated

How to make lemon bread:

Cream margarine and sugar. Add beaten eggs and lemon. Add dry ingredients and milk. Beat with electric mixer. Add nuts. Bake for 50 minutes at 350°. Allow to cool in pan briefly; pour over it the juice of lemon with 1/3 cup sugar that has been dissolved. Allow to cool in pan.

(It is best to mix lemon juice and sugar before baking bread and let it stand to make a syrup.)
