Lemon baked alaska
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- salt - 1/8 tsp
- vanilla ice cream - 1 qt
- butter - 6 Tbsp
- eggs, separated - 3 item
- egg - 1 item
- cream of tartar - 1/4 tsp
- lemon juice - 1/3 c
- 9-inch baked pastry shell
- lemon rind, if desired - 1 item
How to make lemon baked alaska:
Melt butter and add juice, salt and sugar. Beat egg with egg yolks and add to butter mixture. Cook until thick, cool. Spread 1 pint ice cream in crust and freeze. Cover with half sauce. Freeze and then repeat the ice cream and sauce layers. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar and gradually add sugar. Spread over pie and bake in very hot oven until brown. Freeze until ready to use.
