  • Mozzarella cheese, sliced thin in 1/2-inch squares - 1 lb

How to make lasagne:

Meat Sauce:1 lb. ground beef or Italian sausage1 clove garlic, minced1 Tbsp. sweet or whole basil1 1/2 tsp. salt1 (1 lb.) can tomatoes2 (6 oz.) cans tomato paste Brown meat; add rest of ingredients and simmer 30 minutes, covered.Cheese Filling:3 c. cottage cheese or fresh Ricotta1/2 c. Parmesan cheese or Romano cheese2 Tbsp. parsley flakes2 eggs, beaten2 tsp. salt1/2 tsp. pepper1 lb. Mozzarella cheese, sliced thin in 1/2-inch squares Cook noodles; drain well on paper towels. Layer in 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Start with noodles (crisscrossed), half of cheese filling, half of Mozzarella cheese strips and end with half of meat sauce. Repeat layers in same order. Bake at 375° until cheese bubbles through meat sauce, 30 minutes to 1 hour. Let stand 10 minutes before cutting. Serves 12. This can be made a day ahead of time and refrigerated, just allow 15 minutes longer baking time.
