Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • water - 1 c
  • vegetable oil - 2 Tbsp
  • garlic salt - 1 Tbsp
  • Parmesan cheese - 1/2 c
  • can tomato sauce - 15 oz
  • ground beef - 2 lb
  • oregano
  • can tomato paste - 6 oz
  • Mozzarella cheese - 1 c
  • black pepper - 1 tsp
  • lasagna noodles - 8 oz
  • diced onions - 1/2 c
  • Cheddar cheese - 1 c
  • cottage cheese or Ricotta cheese

How to make lasagna:

Brown meat in a large skillet, drain. Stir in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, diced onions, garlic salt, black pepper, oregano and sugar. Blend well. Cover and simmer 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Cook noodles in boiling salted water according to package directions. Add oil, stir occasionally. Drain, rinse, drain again and separate noodles.

Preheat oven to 350°. In the bottom of a shallow 13 x 9-inch ungreased pan, spread a thin layer of sauce, then a layer of noodles. (Save enough extra sauce for topping.) Spread on the meat tomato sauce, then 1/3 of the cottage cheese, 1/3 of the Mozzarella and 1/3 of the Cheddar cheese. Do this 3 times, noodles, sauce, cheeses. Bake, uncovered, for 30 minutes. Remove and let stand 10 minutes before cutting. Spread on top with extra sauce and Parmesan cheese.
