Ingredients/Components

  • eggs - 4 item
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • water - 1/2 c
  • 8 oz - 4 c
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • grated Parmesan cheese - 1/4 c
  • chopped onion - 1/2 c
  • oregano - 1/2 tsp
  • basil - 1/2 tsp
  • olive oil - 2 Tbsp
  • chopped parsley - 1/4 c
  • cloves garlic, crushed - 2 item
  • crushed red pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • ground beef chuck - 1 lb
  • ground lean pork - 1/2 lb
  • lasagna, uncooked - 1 lb
  • tomatoes about 28 oz
  • tomato paste two 6 oz

How to make lasagna:

Sauce: Saute beef, pork, onion and garlic in oil in 4-quart saucepan until meat is well-browned. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, water, salt, oregano, basil and red pepper; simmer, covered, 1 hour.

Cook lasagna according to package directions; drain. Separate lasagna and lay out flat on wax paper or aluminum foil to keep pieces from sticking together as they cool.

Filling: Combine Ricotta or cottage cheese, Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, parsley, eggs, salt and pepper. Pour about 1/2 cup sauce on bottom of 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan. Arrange 4 lasagna noodles lengthwise over sauce, overlapping edges. Spread 1/3 of cheese filling over lasagna and cover with about 1 1/2 cups sauce. Repeat layers of lasagna and cover with about 1 1/2 cups sauce. Repeat layers of lasagna, cheese filling and sauce twice. Top with a layer of lasagna and remaining sauce. Cover with aluminum foil. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Remove foil; bake 10 minutes longer. Allow to stand about 10 minutes before cutting for easier handling. Serves 10 to 12.
