Ingredients/Components

  • pkg - 1 oz
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • shortening - 2 Tbsp
  • clove garlic, minced - 1 item
  • grated Parmesan cheese - 1/3 c
  • bay leaf - 1 item
  • ground beef
  • oregano - 1/2 tsp
  • can tomato paste - 1 oz
  • medium onion, chopped - 1 item
  • celery, chopped - 1/4 c
  • cayenne pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • Mozzarella cheese, grated - 1 lb
  • cottage cheese or Ricotta cheese - 2 c
  • 303 cans tomatoes

How to make lasagna:

Saute celery, onion and garlic in shortening. Add beef and brown until crumbly, but not hard. Pour off drippings. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, cayenne pepper, oregano and bay leaf. Cover and cook slowly 20 minutes. Remove bay leaf.

Cook noodles in boiling, salted water until tender. Drain. Arrange noodles in a greased 11 x 17-inch baking dish. Pour half of the meat sauce over noodles. Cover with cottage cheese or Ricotta and Mozzarella cheese. Repeat with remaining noodles, sauce and cheese. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Serves eight.
