Ingredients/Components

  • hot Italian sausage, cut in 1-inch pieces - 1/2 lb
  • large onion, coarsely chopped - 1 item
  • large green pepper, coarsely chopped - 1 item
  • cloves garlic, crushed - 6 item
  • uncooked long grain rice - 2/3 c
  • cooked ham, cut in 1-inch pieces - 2 c
  • can tomatoes - 1 oz
  • chicken broth - 1 c
  • chili powder - 3 Tbsp
  • turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • thyme - 1/8 tsp
  • pkg - 1 oz

How to make jambalaya:

Brown sausage in a large skillet. Remove sausage from skillet and drain. Add onion, green pepper and garlic. Saute until lightly browned. Add rice. Cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in sausage, ham, tomatoes, chicken broth and seasonings. Bring to a boil. Pour into 4-quart casserole. Bake, covered, in a 375° oven for 40 to 45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Place shrimp on top and bake, covered, for 10 minutes more. Serves 8.
