Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- sour cream - 1/4 c
- butter or margarine - 1/2 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour - 3 c
- butter
- vanilla flavoring - 1 tsp
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- egg yolks - 3 item
- buttermilk - 1 c
- sifted flour - 2 c
- margarine - 1 c
- jam - 1 c
- small can evaporated milk - 1 item
- walnuts - 3/4 c
- egg whites, beaten - 4 item
- well beaten egg yolks - 4 item
- cinnamon and nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- currants or raisins - 1/2 c
- Beat in egg yolks and stir in jam
How to make jam cake:
Or:1/2 c. butter1 c. sugar1 c. jam3 egg yolks1/2 tsp. cinnamon and nutmeg1/4 c. sour cream2 c. sifted flour Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg yolks and stir in jam. Resift flour with the other dry ingredients and flour mix with sour cream. Beat batter until well blended. Bake in 2 greased 9-inch layer pans in moderate oven for 25 to 50 minutes and ice as desired. Bake at 300° for 1 to 1 1/3 hours.Caramel Frosting:2 c. brown sugar1/2 c. butter or margarine1 small can evaporated milk1 tsp. vanilla flavoring Combine sugar, butter and milk. Cook over low heat until a small amount of mixture forms a soft ball when dropped into cold water. Remove from heat and add flavoring, beating until creamy.
