  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1 c
  • brown sugar - 1 c
  • nutmeg - 2 tsp
  • soda - 2 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • chopped nuts optional - 1 c
  • powdered sugar - 5 c
  • raisins - 1 c
  • jam - 2 c
  • allspice - 2 tsp
  • shortening Crisco - 1 c
  • flour plain - 4 c
  • Sift flour and spices together

How to make jam cake:

Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs. Sift flour and spices together. Add soda and buttermilk, then raisins and nuts. Mix well. Bake in moderate oven about 325° until done in 2 (9-inch) cake pans.Caramel Icing:1 c. margarine2 c. brown sugar1/2 c. milk2 tsp. vanilla5 c. powdered sugar1 c. chopped nuts (optional) Melt butter in saucepan. Add brown sugar and bring to a boil. Add milk and bring to a boil again. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and powdered sugar. Beat until smooth. Frost cake. Sprinkle nuts on top.
