  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • shortening - 1 c
  • jam - 1 pt
  • cinnamon, cloves and allspice - 1/2 tsp
  • sugar may need more if jam not very sweet - 2 c
  • Add eggs, one at a time alternately with flour and buttermilk and beat well

Add eggs, one at a time alternately with flour and buttermilk and beat well.Filling:2 c. sugar1/8 to 1/4 c. butter or margarine3/4 c. milk Cook sugar and milk until all sugar is dissolved and desired thickness is attained. The ingredients may need to be increased according to size of cake.
