Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 c
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- eggs - 5 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk
- butter or margarine - 1 c
- chopped nuts - 1 c
- nutmeg - 1 tsp
- cocoa - 2 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1/2 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- plain flour
- cloves - 1 tsp
- allspice - 1 tsp
- seeded raisins - 1 lb
- thick jam
- Icing:3 egg yolks
How to make jam cake:
Icing:3 egg yolks1 1/2 c. milk5 Tbsp. butter or margarine1 tsp. vanilla1 c. chopped nuts Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk; set aside. Roll raisins and nuts in a small amount of flour; set aside. Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Sift all dry ingredients together and add to egg mixture gradually with buttermilk; mix well. Stir in jam, raisins and nuts. Add vanilla and mix well. Pour in greased and floured cake pans and bake at 325° until done.Icing: Boil sugar and milk together to soft ball stage. Beat egg yolks. Pour sugar and milk mixture over egg yolks, beating constantly. Add butter, vanilla and nuts. Beat until right consistency is reached to spread on cake.
