Ingredients/Components
- salt - 2 tsp
- chopped onion - 1 c
- dry red wine - 2 Tbsp
- chopped green pepper - 1 c
- oregano - 1 tsp
- basil - 2 tsp
- can tomato paste - 1 oz
- olive oil - 3 Tbsp
- black pepper - 1/2 tsp
- minced garlic - 1 Tbsp
- freshly chopped parsley - 1/2 c
- bay leaves - 2 item
- 13 oz - 1 lb
- freshly chopped tomatoes - 1 c
- grated Parmesan or Romano cheese add last - 1/2 c
- coarsely chopped mushrooms, sauteed with step 1
How to make italian tomato sauce:
Optional:1/2 lb. coarsely chopped mushrooms, sauteed with step 1)1/2 c. grated Parmesan or Romano cheese (add last) Step 1: Saute first 8 ingredients in a large kettle.Step 2: When onion is very clear and very soft, add next 5 ingredients.
Step 3: Turn the heat way down. Cover and simmer at least 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, then add parsley, a lot of pepper and salt plus some basil and oregano.
