  • salt - 2 tsp
  • chopped onion - 1 c
  • dry red wine - 2 Tbsp
  • chopped green pepper - 1 c
  • oregano - 1 tsp
  • basil - 2 tsp
  • can tomato paste - 1 oz
  • olive oil - 3 Tbsp
  • black pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • minced garlic - 1 Tbsp
  • freshly chopped parsley - 1/2 c
  • bay leaves - 2 item
  • 13 oz - 1 lb
  • freshly chopped tomatoes - 1 c
  • grated Parmesan or Romano cheese add last - 1/2 c
  • coarsely chopped mushrooms, sauteed with step 1

How to make italian tomato sauce:

Optional:1/2 lb. coarsely chopped mushrooms, sauteed with step 1)1/2 c. grated Parmesan or Romano cheese (add last) Step 1: Saute first 8 ingredients in a large kettle.

Step 2: When onion is very clear and very soft, add next 5 ingredients.

Step 3: Turn the heat way down. Cover and simmer at least 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, then add parsley, a lot of pepper and salt plus some basil and oregano.
