Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 c
  • eggs - 10 item
  • vanilla - 2 Tbsp
  • milk - 1 c
  • flour
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • stick butter - 1 item
  • dash of salt - 1 item
  • cloves - 10 item
  • Ricotta - 2 lb
  • barley or wheat * - 1/2 lb
  • orange skin, grated - 1 item
  • tangerine skin, grated - 1 item

How to make italian easter pie:

Pastry Shell:2 c. flour2 eggs4 Tbsp. sugar1 stick butter2 tsp. baking powder dash of salt *If the barley or wheat is not clean, soak overnight in water.

Mix the barley, cloves, orange and tangerine and boil for about 1 1/2 hours. After boiling, remove cloves and let mixture cool.

Take egg yolks and beat well. Add the Ricotta, sugar, milk and vanilla and mix well. Add this preparation to the barley and mix. Beat egg whites like meringue and fold into mixture.

Mix all the ingredients for the pastry shell. Roll and put in two 8-inch round cake pans or pie plates. Pour the barley mixture into uncooked pie shells. Bake at 350° for 1 hour or at 375° for 45 minutes.
