Irish soda bread
Ingredients/Components
- flour - 3 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- sugar - 1/4 c
- butter or margarine - 1/2 c
- raisins - 3/4 c
- apple cider vinegar - 3 Tbsp
- milk - 3/4 c
- egg - 1 item
- caraway seed optional - 1 tsp
How to make irish soda bread:
Mix vinegar and milk together. Heat oven to 350°. Grease an 8-inch pie pan.Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Stir in raisins and caraway seed.
Make a hole in the center of the flour mixture. Pour entire liquid mixture into the well. Stir vigorously until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn out on board and knead gently. Shape into a round ball. Place in a pie plate. Cut a cross from side to side and brush top with a little milk for glaze. Bake for 50 minutes or until done at 350°.
